Hi friends! If you weren't able to make one or both of our recent meetings (9/5/19 and 9/12/19), because of other commitments or because you're new to Speakers... Welcome! This is a space to catch up on the great poetry prompts we worked with during our meetings, and to hear any new exciting news! 9/5/19We began the year with a great turnout at our first general body meeting, with many returning faces and many new ones! It was a lot of fun to start to get to know everybody, and every poem that was read and/or written in our space was amazing. The poetry prompts we worked with this week were:

~~~~~~ -Speaker Hi friends, National poetry month is behind us, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the sultry summer air with a bit of verse and prose to keep us company anyway. As Speakers gets up and running in preparation for the new semester, I thought it might be nice to set the pace with some poetry prompts-- all summer-themed, of course! 1. Rewind the clock and think back to your most surprising summer memory. Write a poem about how you felt in that moment and why it was so surprising. 2. Do you like to travel? Have you traveled this summer? Write a poem about the wonder you feel when discovering and exploring a new place. 3. If you have a summer internship, write a poem about how it felt to get it. Or, write a poem about the best- or worst- part of your work. 4. Summer often brings us back to nature and the natural world. What about nature most fascinates you? Write a poem about the fantasty nature can often evoke. 5. In the summertime, we may hang out more often with our families. Write a poem about life back with your family, and about all the joy (or annoyance and heartbreak!) it can bring. Feel free to warp the ideas put forth in these prompts, stretch them, come up with prompts of your own based on them, or ignore them altogether. And if you choose to share your words with us, remember-- no disclaimers! Poetry is art, and art is messy and beautiful. :)
Much love, Speaker |
